Another Anoka Arrestee Visited by SPPD
One of the nine arrested at the ATK weapons manufacturing plant in Anoka county last July recently received a visit from the St. Paul police department. Sergeant Scott Duff and a probation officer (whose name is not known) came to the arrestee's parents' house two weeks ago to chat. The arrestee, who was a juvenile at the time of the arrest, wasn't at home, and the officers spoke briefly with her mother outside of their house. They are paraphrased as saying, "It's alright if you want to do civil disobidience, but please don't smash any windows." They then passed along Sergeant Duff's card, requesting that the individual give him a call, "...even if it's just to let us know that she doesn't want to talk to us." There was no mention of her arrest at ATK. The individual is also not on probation, so the purpose of a probation officer present at the visit would've been for intimidation purposes only.
The individual has not contacted Sergeant Duff and has no intention of doing so.
If you or someone you know has been contacted by the police, remember that you never have to talk to them. Going public about a visit or another form of state intimidation opens yourself up for community support and breaks the shroud of the secrecy that surrounds and feeds such harrassment. It is empowering to educate yourself on what your rights are.
