Introducing Twin Cities Indymedia - 2.0
Welcome to the new Twin Cities Indymedia! We apologize for the delay in launching the new site, but think you'll agree that it was worth the wait.
Our new site is light years ahead of the old Twin Cities Indymedia (TC-IMC) in user-friendliness, functionality, and style. In addition, it is based on the Drupal Content Management System, which helps us maintain wiring of the site, which in turn means less downtime.
Of course, this website is only part of what makes Indymedia work. The crucial component of every Independent Media Center is YOU, the users. The launch of this new site is only one part of an overhaul of Twin Cities Indymedia. We are also in the process of forming new Editorial and Tech Collectives. If you are interested in participating in either of these groups, please set up a site account, visit the Groups page (above), and join the working group you would like to participate in!
Please take the time to poke around a bit to explore the new layout and functions. The new site includes the same core functionality as the old site, with a few critical augmentations:
• Open Publishing- write posts and publish them in the Local Newswire by clicking "Write a Post"
• Events Calendar- TC-IMC offers an open-publishing calendar for you to use to promote your organization's events and find out about radical happenings around town
• RSS Feeds- the new site features live feeds from other Independent Media Centers around the world, the US, and the Midwest so that you can keep apprised of movement news from other regions
• Embedded Video and Images- this site allows you to embed video footage from YouTube or other off-site video hosts. You can also upload images to the site and put them in your post
• Groups- set up a profile page for your group on TC-IMC. All stories about your organization will be archived on your page. Members and supporters can sign up to receive notification whenever your organization posts a story
• the Adminblog- the TC-IMC Collective wants to work as transparently as possible. We will post thoughts about site upgrades and changes to the Adminblog where the whole community can comment on them.
We hope you enjoy the new Twin Cities Indymedia. Please send us your comments and feedback, or better, come to our next meeting!
in struggle,
the TCIMC Collective
