Spirits and Spirituality

10/07/2008

Are you curious about spirituality, religion, and the meaning of life, but feel uncomfortable about organized religion? The group, Spirits and Spirituality, is committed to providing safe space in which people can discuss religion, spirituality, the purpose of life, and related issues in a respectful manner. It seeks to form groups in which people can connect and take seriously the spiritual aspect of their lives without fear of condemnation or manipulation.

The group meets every other Sunday from 7 to 9 pm at the 331 Club. The 331 Club is in Northeast Minneapolis on the corner of University Ave NE and 13th Ave NE The address is 331 13th Ave NE. The next group will meet October 19. On the 19th we’ll be looking at a definition of spirituality, what people seem to mean by it generally, how understandings of it differ and why, and what parts folks in the group agree and disagree with.

Spirits and Spirituality is sponsored by Trinity United Methodist church of the Northeast community. It does not seek to convert anyone to its own tradition. The groups are not a ploy to get folks to pay its bills; the groups are free. It does not seek, in any sort of subtle way, to dictate to any participant what he or she ought to think or do. The groups are disconnected from the primary body of the church, and they are organized and facilitated by its Community Outreach Worker, who has no affiliation with the church. His primary role is facilitator and organizer – not participant. Trinity has discerned that in the absence of church or any sort of serious spiritual community in the lives of people today (for whatever reason), our spiritual lives are being neglected. Again, Trinity only seeks to provide the space and organization in which people can take spirituality serious, foremost on their terms.

If you have any questions or concerns, you can email the Outreach Worker, Chester O’Gorman. Otherwise, see you there!
