Inocent people detained and tortured in Minneapolis - U.S. is worse that China for Civil Rights
"America needs to know what's going on in Minnesota. The police state actions that Americans deplored in China during the Olympics are happening here in the US, outside the Republican convention. Reporters from all media should be outraged at the brutal treatment of their fellow journalists," said Mark Dunlea, an attorney, former Chair of the Green Party of New York State and a long-time host of Capitol Report, a public affairs radio show.
There are innocent people currently in jail, un-charged, being held for an indefinite period of time. These are people who were doing nothing except walking down the street. They have been pepper sprayed and beaten.
Demand that the main-stream media report on how people can be incarcerated without charge, and held against their will in the U.S.

Maybe if they were sooooooo
Maybe if they were sooooooo fucking stupid and would ID themselves then they just might be cited and released. You guys are soooooo fucking stupid with this, "don't ID yourself to the police". If you don't ID yourself, especially if you're arrested, then you will be detained until you ID yourself......."Sheeesh, idiots!!!"
Whatever
My friends HAVE given their names and according to the jail are still being held, over 24 hours now, with no charges or access to a telephone.
C'mon guys...
Let's be realistic and intelligent here... You've got indication that your ranks have been infiltrated by spies and people bent on doing you wrong. Why is it such a leap that there's not _provocateurs_ involved in the vandalism?
You know how to put a stop to it? Take anarchism one step further and freaking show some initiative*. If you see someone about to do something that's going to give the cops even a thinly veiled excuse, verbally address those people immediately. You can either distance yourself from them (which is where the hippie side of anarchism will fail against people sincerely bent on misdeeds) or tell them outright in a loud voice that they're about to eff things up. You don't have to impinge upon someone else's rights in any way to sort this sort of thing out on the spot, and unfortunately the only way to /really/ expose a provocateur is to either make sure *you* call them out on the spot, or turn them over to the police and *hope* that the police aren't going to just sweep things under the rug. Haha. Bonus points if you can see the obvious flaw in that last part.
Organizing to get a lot of people there was a good start, but unless you can actually demonstrate to the press that the people smashing stuff aren't "with" you, that's all the press is going to report... that protesters tore up some stuff and the police stopped them.
Stop falling into their hands. Optimism is great and everything, but fighting evil requires a slightly firmer hand.
* - because in the absence of authority, simple initiative will usually suffice.
Sour Notes
"Taking anarchism one step further" : You don't think that initiative is fundamental to anarchism?
"The only way...call them out on the spot" : What if the rogue offender is sincerely misguided? What about keeping disputes private to the affinity group? What about solidarity, critical to both morale and collective action? What if your lone accusation that another is a rogue is really itself a rogue action disrupting the group in the face of the enemy?
"Turn them over to the police" : You need police?
It seems to me that whether the rogue's motive is corrupt or sincere is secondary and generally hard to determine in the heat of action. In dealing with it on the spot, a better focus than loyalty is thus the offending act's lack of merit.
Regardless
Like it or not, part of this is about the publicity war. If you are having private disputes and don't want to air them publicly, that's fine, if you are actually airing those disputes. Behavior must change in order to keep the public engaged to the cause. When the rogue element continues to capture the story with criminal behavior, that renders the entire group worthless. I can see keeping things private, expressing solidarity, but you must keep the group "on task".
It’s clear that recent
It’s clear that recent events and this week’s call-in days to Susan Gaertner (we got reports of jammed phone lines and a harried office) made the state feel threatened. On Wednesday, a larger than usual presence of Ramsey County Sheriff’s Deputies were present at court and tried to intimidate supporters in the hallway. But we have a support structure that they don’t! Let’s continue the strong court solidarity for the RNC 8 and other RNCsexy lingerie bedroom furniture-related cases, and keep our pressure campaign on high. Watch soon for information on activities surrounding the next RNC 8 court appearance on January 26
Learn the fucking law...you
Learn the fucking law...you anarchist types say you know the law.....well they have 36-48hrs to charge someone before they have to let them go. Obviously, you fucks are tooooo stupid to even know the simplest of laws.
Intelligence
Certainly worse than China when it comes to spelling and grammatics.
Take these names down!
You all need to check sources before you post people's NAMES on a website.
You become as bad as the effing mainstream media if you don't check your sources before you choose to drag someone's name through the mud by saying they're an anarchist when they're not, or that they're participating in behaviors that they're not actually participating in.
Get it right or pay the price.
Public Information
Is for the public last time I checked. All the good people posting it are just providing information. Just like the good librarians.
So?
Did I get it right or do I have to pay the price?
thank you!
Thank you, TC Indymedia, for taking down the personal and business confirmation of alleged "anarchists." My wife was on that list, for her involvement in radical reference (check out their wiki!). All the peaceful librarians have done is provide people with information on where to ind food, water, trash cans, courts, hospitals, etc. If librarians organizing to provide information to the public is anarchism, I would like to know what would not be.
I love Indymedia and the free access of information, and appreciate your work to protect individuals' personal information from unsubstantiated allegations.
Not Exactly
Explain what allegations were made in the posts regarding those involved in the movement.
Yes, what exactly?
What exactly ARE the things these "anarchist leaders" are being accused of? Did the poster just do some Googling and put together a badly researched list? And why post people's names under an anonymous name if the poster is so concerned with "outing" people?
Yes, thank you!
I wanted to second the thanks for removing personal information posted by 'anonymous'. We at Radical Reference believe in social justice and equality, and subscribe to no one political view. As V said, we are providing people with information-information that is verifiable and trustworthy.
Home is the best
People should realize atleast here after that home country is the safest place to live in. If they want to migrate for earning more money then they should be ready to face any tortures like mentioned in this story!
