A Free Screening Of: EVERYTHING'S COOL: A TOXIC COMEDY ABOUT GLOBAL WARMING!
EVERYTHING'S COOL is a documentary made by the same creative team that produced the award-winning BLUE VINYL and is co-produced and co-directed by Daniel B. Gold and Judith Helfand. It features Pulitzer Prize winner Ross Gelbspan, the Weather Channel's Dr. Heidi Cullen and White House Whistleblower Rick Piltz. In the role of the good guys, this cast capably defends climate science integrity and takes on industry-funded naysayers, who deny the realities of global warming. Even though the Bush Administration, which was notorious for suppressing and censoring climate reports, is out of the picture and there is a new president in office that has promised to deal with the crisis, climate skepticism is still alive and well within the Halls of Congress where conservative politicians on boths sides of the bench are lending an eagar ear to the hucksters of the fossil-fuel industry. This has greatly and negatively influenced the current climate legislation that is under consideration which, if passed, will not reduce greenhouse gas emissions one iota in the near future. In fact, it does the exact opposite in appeasing the Carbon Barbons in their efforts to extract and burn yet more dirty hydrocarbons and make money in the bargain through pernicious carbon trading and other stalling tactics. There interference does not stop at the Capitol steps, however.
Highly organized and under the careful guidance of the American Petroleum Institute, such groups as the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, National Association of Manufacturers, American Farm Bureau, American Conservative Union, FreedomWorks and Americans for Tax Reform are organinizing a series of rallies across the U.S. during the final two weeks of the Congressional recess. Using the false dichotomy of jobs vs. the environment, the excuse of the economic crisis and by denying the dire threat of climate change, they hope to mobilize thousands of dazed and confused workers who fear for their jobs in the transition to a clean-energy economy, which is being strangled in the cradle by reactionary forces. Their goal is to get their army of so-called Energy Citizens to demand the combustion of yet more dirty hydrocarbons at the expense of the planet. Greenpeace has obtained a list of 20 cities where these pro-fossil-fuel orgies are going to be held including one at the South St. Paul Hotel and Convention Center on August 31st. That is why climate crisis activists and others concerned with the health of the planet and the security of future generations must be ready to defend climate science integrity and mobilize in support of a sustainable economy with green-collar jobs that is powered by clean wind & solar energy.
The film showing will be held on Monday, August 24th at 7:00 PM at Mayday Books, 301 Cedar Avenue South on the West Bank in Minneapolis. The program is sponsored by the Climate Crisis Coalition of the Twin Cities and is free and open to the public. The Clean-Energy Vigil to Cool Down the Planet takes place on the plaza outside the bookstore at 5:00 PM (Weather permitting), followed by the 3CTC Business Meeting at 6:00 PM. All are welcome.
