Powderhorn Snowball WAR!!!

02/16/2009 12:00

I am a Snowball War/Capture the Flag Game in Powderhorn Park at high noon on Presidents Day!

I am badass! I am militant! I am a fundraiser for RNC Restitution, Community RNC Arestee Support Structure(CRASS) and the RNC 8.

If you think you got what it takes and want to win some sweet prizes from cool local businesses, put a team together and show up.

But let me warn you, others are doing the same and they want nothing less than to whitewash you with snowballs and tear down your flag.

That first snowball that goes zinging by your head--so close you can feel its cold, that's what seperates the warriors from the obedient.

Rules

All is fair in love & war yes, but the Gods of War decide who takes home the prizes and they are picky, but flexible. The following are basically proposals for the people who show up to decided whether they would like to accept or change a little:

Teams

There will be multiply teams, with a limit of 5 people per team, defending different areas of Powderhorn Park. Each team will have a color and a flag of that color to defend.

For people who show up the day of the war without a team, it may be possible to create there own team of renegades, join other teams or teams may merge to form larger teams to even things out. Again, it will be up to the individuals/teams who show up to decide.

Battle

When you are in your territory, you are a defender. When you step into another territory you are an attacker/intruder.

When there are only two teams, it is easy to divide the space between the teams by simply drawing a line (or stringing tape) through the middle of the battlefield. When multiply teams play, a teams territory is defined as a circular perimeter around there flag. For our war, each team will have a perimeter centered on their flag with a radius of, lets say 50 yards from the flag, unless we want to draw a sector map? The rest of Powderhorn not covered by a teams territory will provide a space for people who just want to throw snowballs at random people but aren't necessarily interested in competing. That area will be a free-for-all, complete lawlessness, chaos, in other words, Anarchy!

In traditional capture the flag, you defend your area by tagging intruders. When a defender tags an intruder, the intruder goes to "jail." Each team has their own jail and they are usually located near their flag.

The twist in Snowball War capture the flag is that when some is hit with a snowball, whether they are attacking or defending, they are frozen for 20 seconds. If you "freeze" an attacker in your area by hitting them with a snowball, this would be a good time to tag them and take them to jail. If you hit some a defender with a snowball and "freeze" them, this would be a good time to run past them and be closer to capturing their flag.

Jail

If you get tagged, you put your hands in the air and go to the jail of the team who tagged you. But don't worry, cuz this is a game for badasses and militants so jails can't hold us! You can be liberated if someone from your team is able to make it into the jail and tag you. Once busted out of jail, you have to go all the way back to your flag and tag it before you can reenter the game.

Capture the Flag

To capture a teams flag means to grab it from their area/fort and return with it without being tagged to your area and plant their flag beside yours.

But the flag is not captured until it is planted beside another flag. If an intruder grabs a flag but gets tagged before they make it out of enemy territory , they have to surrender the flag and go to jail. If they are tagged with the flag in free territory or their own territory before they can plant it by their flag, they have to surrender the flag and remain frozen for 30 seconds before reentering the game

A team who gets their flag captured is defeated and vanquished from the field to lick their wound in shame.

Victory!

The last three teams will be awarded prizes. Once there are only three teams left, the last teams can negotiate a truce and decided who is first second or third by counting the amount of flags each team has captured or continueing battling until only one team is left.
