Arise Summer Series: Class & Activism Roundtable plus a movie!

08/09/2009 20:00

Once again, the Arise! Books collective is hosting a series of free weekly events all summer long!  Events start each sunday night at 8pm, ending with a film screening in the backyard after sundown.

August 9 :  Class, privilege, activism and cupcakes

A roundtable discussion of class & activism. What happens when we don't discuss class? How does that affect our activism? How does class shape our experience of political work? In an activist culture that often fetishizes the "working class" without challenging existing class privilege , how do working class activists cope? How can middle class activists stop being jerks about class? Discuss, think, listen, stay for a showing of Fassbinder's classic "Fox and His Friends".

Cupcakes will be provided to all.

FILM Fox and His Friends - German filmmaker Rainer Werner Fassbinder's film about class, sexuality and exploitation. Fox is a nice guy, but he's still out of work. He wins some money and attracts an unscrupulous upper-middle-class boyfriend. Fox thinks he's sincere! Poor Fox.
