Police Shut Down Streets in S. Mpls Searching For Allegedly Armed Man
While biking home today, Wed. Dec. 5th, I was exiting the Midtown Greenway bike trail at 13th Ave and discovered a large police action underway. First I saw a spotlight shining on a home at the end of the 2800 block on 14th, while hearing LOUD, but muffled sounds of MPD instructing anyone in the house to "evacuate". As I rode around the block to ensure and/or be a witness (on my way home anyhow), I discovered that MPD patrol cars were stationed blocking the streets at 3, possibly 4 intersections: 14th & 15th Ave on E. 28th St, and 14th (& perhaps 15th) at E. 29th St by Greenway Trail.
I went down the open alley between 13th & 14th and found a gold mini-van stationed out the back of 2830. A cop waved me away and as I turned around, he got out and told me I couldn't continue in that direction. I asked if everything was OK, and he responded, "Yes. We're executing a search warrant for a man with a gun."

I turned around, crossed the street to leave, then discovered a woman standing by a pole watching from across the street. I asked if she knew anything and this video documents the relevant part of our conversation. She lives on this street and was waiting to return home. I decided since I was warm enough and able to be a witness, I might as well stay and keep her company. The two MPD cars that I could see were 924 & another one from the same division. After about 15 mins or so, she was called by the officer across the street to tell her it was safe for her to return home. We saw spot lights shining on houses at the end of the block, but it appeared that no one was home and no further action was taken here.
I was also apprised by my neighborhood community organizer whose was told by other community members that there was an armed robbery on 13th & Lake St on Friday night at 11:30pm (11/30/12) and they tracked them to 2837 14th Ave. A neighbor on this same block saw 8-10 squads in alley and vacant lots, with 14th Ave shut down, and MPD all had guns drawn. I have no information past that at this moment.
