Judge orders handwriting samples of AETA4

On Friday, November 13, presiding magistratate Richard Seeborg ordered all four of the AETA4 defendants to give handwriting exemplars to the FBI within 30 days.  In the prosecution's motion, the stated goal was to possibly file additional charges as there is an ongoing investigation into "similar crimes" committed through the United States Postal Service.  It's unclear what the ongoing investigation relates to or if these "similar crimes" are the serious transgressions and national security threat that requires millions more in funding and a terr

Government's response to AETA4 Motion to Dismiss

On June 16, the government filed their response to the motion to dismiss the AETA4 case.  Defense attorneys, along with the Center for Constitutional Rights, and the Civil Liberties Defense Center filed the motion to dismiss on May 22, attacking the constitutionality of the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act, which criminalizes animal rights activism as terrorism.

On February 19 and 20 2009, four people, Nathan Pope, Adriana Stumpo, Joseph Buddenberg, and Maryam Khajavi, were arrested by the FBI and charged with violating the Animal Enterprise Terrorism Act.
