Two More RNC Defendants Acquitted; Reduced Charges for Third (UPDATED) (crosspost)

TCIMC Update 3/20: Sean McCoy, a street medic from Montana, was found not guilty today on the charge of fleeing a police officer but guilty on assembly without a permit (the St. Paul ordinance mandating a permit for political events of 25 or more).  St. Paul City Attorney John Choi's big win? A $50 fine plus court costs (for a total of about $130).  Two other charges against McCoy were dismissed earlier in the week by the judge for lack of evidence.

Cam Kennedy, facing felony obstruction of legal process charges after the RNC, has a pretrial hearing this Friday at 9am at the Ramsey County Courthouse, 15 W. Kellogg in St. Paul. Just this week, Cam was offered a plea deal by prosecutor Richard Dusterhoft to reduce his charges to misdemeanors - but he turned it down and is continuing to fight! Please thank Cam for fighting his bogus charges by coming to the hearing to show your support at 9am Friday.

Also on Friday morning, 2 of the RNC 8 have motion hearings: Luce Guillen-Givins at 9am and Eryn Trimmer at 10:30.

Darryl Robinson's "Copwatch" Case Dismissed Before Trial

Darryl Robinson's case in Hennepin County Court was dismissed on Monday afternoon. Robinson was charged with obstruction of legal process, disorderly conduct, and obstructing a sidewalk after being beaten unconscious by Minneapolis Police while copwatching outside a shelter last July. Communities United Against Police Brutality writes:

In an exciting courtroom victory today, charges leveled against CUAPB Vice President Darryl Robinson after he was beaten and arrested during copwatch were suddenly dropped by the prosecution in the middle of jury selection. We believe this was indicative of the weakness of the case, once the prosecution realized there were a number of witnesses who could collaborate Darryl's recollections of the incident. Darryl still faces one count of trespass for a previous copwatch incident and that case will go to trial on March 23rd but for now we are all relishing the wonderful victory today.

"Wall 7" case dismissed: Lawyers' statement

Judge Dismisses RNC Charges in First Case to Proceed to Trial -
Insufficient Evidence to Allow Case to Proceed to Jury

FRIDAY: All "Wall 7" charges dismissed!

Friday morning, on the fourth day of trial, Ramsey County District Court Judge Michael Fetsch dismissed all charges against the "Wall 7," some of the first activists to go to trial in connection with the RNC. The seven activists from the Northeast were facing 4 trumped-up misdemeanor charges after being penned in with about 30 others by a Mobile Field Force and SPPD bicycle unit at 6th and Wall Streets on September 1, 2008.
