Jews, Palestinians, and Allies for Peace in Gaza Protest in St. Louis Park

Sunday afternoon, a spirited crowd of demonstrators led by Jewish and Palestinian-American voices lined the only street leading to the Sabes Jewish Community Center in the Minneapolis suburb of St. Louis Park. Following a 2:30 press conference, the crowd swelled to some 200 people demanding an end to Israel's war in Gaza and urging U.S. media and pro-Zionist organizations to take note of the movement of Jews standing in solidarity with Palestine. Inside the building, a pro-Israel event was taking place.

Organizers announced that the next rally in support of Gaza will take place at Loring Park in downtown Minneapolis at 2pm on Saturday, January 17.

Gaza Death Toll Over 530; Demonstrations Continue

Last week, 100-200 protesters demonstrated outside Senator Amy Klobuchar's Minneapolis office, despite near blizzard-like conditions, then went inside and occupied her office until Klobuchar returned to meet with them. After 20 minutes, Klobuchar stated she would not speak out to criticize Israel's continued attack, nor call for a cease fire, and left.

On January 2nd, a larger crowd of hundreds gathered at the Islamic Cultural Community Center in Northeast Minneapolis for an afternoon rally. Today, January 5, a Muslim student-organized rally will take place at the State Capitol, at 1pm, followed by a press conference at 3pm and a candlelight vigil beginning around 4:15.

The Massacre in Palestine and the Threat of a Wider War

Yet another Israeli-led and U.S.-backed massacre is taking place as the world watches in horror. The western media, desperately trying to peddle the puny rockets of Hamas as bullying, does journalistic back flips in avoiding the utter carnage brought down by the much more powerful –- U.S. made and paid for — Israeli missiles.

Just before noon local time on Saturday, December 27, Israeli warplanes launched a massive bomb attack on the densely populated Gaza Strip. More than 270 Palestinians were killed as wave after wave of U.S.-supplied F-16 fighter jets and Apache helicopters dropped more than 100 bombs. Another 15 were killed by renewed air strikes on Sunday as Israeli infantry and tanks massed on the border for a possible ground invasion reoccupying the area where 1.5 million people are jammed into 140 square miles, barely twice the size of Washington, D.C.

The attack on Gaza sparked demonstrations in West Bank cities including several thousand in Nazareth, while hundreds of Jewish and Arab leftists marched in Tel Aviv to protest the Israeli assault. Police attacked the demo and arrested a number of protesters.

The Israeli military said they were targeting Hamas installations, and the bombs hit numerous government offices in Gaza City and the southern town of Rafah. The Islamic fundamentalist movement Hamas won Palestinian elections in January 2006 and has ruled Gaza as its elected government for the last year and a half. Many of the dead were police officers, although numerous civilians were killed, including a number of children, as schools had just let out for lunch. The Zionists’ attack on downtown areas was deliberate mass murder.
