Let’s keep our friends free and fierce! Join us to raise funds to support Northwest comrades fighting repression. Saturday-8/18/12 6:30pm Seward Cafe-2129 East Franklin Ave. Minneapolis, Funds will go towards Grand Jury resistors <saynothing.info> as well as Pax <freepax.org>.

The night kicks off early with donation-fueled bike repair. Bike fixin’ starts at 6:30. Get tuned up, lubed up, and all your tires properly inflated.

Music at 8 with local darlings Sister Species and the infamous Doctor Muskrat and his Mississippi Mudsteppers.

Iowa grand jury update: Scott DeMuth sentenced to six months, taken into custody today

Monday, February 14, 2011

This afternoon, family, friends and supporters gathered to show support for Scott DeMuth as he was sentenced in federal court in Davenport, Iowa. Scott was sentenced to six months imprisonment, and taken immediately into custody. We will be posting information on how to send him mail as soon as his location is confirmed.

In the last week of September, 14 anti-war and international solidarity activists were hit with Grand Jury subpoenas. After informing the prosecutor that they were all going to plead the Fifth, the subpoenas were canceled. But recently, three of the activists have been notified that their subpoenas will soon be reactivated.

Historically the Justice Department and the FBI have used the subpoena power of the federal grand jury, coupled with compulsory immunity, to jail activists who refuse to cooperate with government investigations. In the 1960s and well into the '80s there were many instances of courageous people who refused to testify before grand juries.

1. Update on Carrie Feldman

On Friday, January 22, we found out that the appeal of the motions for Carrie’s release was denied. This decision means that she will remain a hostage of the state for an indeterminate length of time, up to the remainder of the grand jury (9 more months).
