Bayan Muna protests against China’s excursions in Scarborough Shoal

PHILIPPINES: The progressive party-list Bayan Muna is protesting against China’s excursions in Panatag or Scarborough Shoal saying that China should order its vessels to leave the area and stop harassing Filipino fishermen.

Bayan Muna Representatives Teddy Casiño and Neri Colmenares have filed House Resolution 2330 assailing China for its latest incursions and investigating the failure of government to assert the country’s sovereignty and enforce illegal fishing laws against the Chinese fishermen.

PHILIPPINES: Sentro, Nagkaisa herald new era of labor unity

THOUSANDS of trade unionists and activists poured into the streets of Manila and other key cities to celebrate May Day amid renewed hopes that the two latest efforts at labor unity will provide strong impetus to their uphill battle for labor and trade union rights.

At least 5,000 affiliates of the Sentro ng mga Progresibong Manggagawa (Sentro), a newly organized labor center, joined a more massive march and rally in Manila of the recently launched Nagkaisa! labor coalition.

Philippine Chief Justice Corona urged to resign

TWO days after a "court holiday" was declared in support of impeached Chief Justice Renato Corona, Bantay Gloria Network (BGN) responded with a "national day of action" to press for the removal of Corona from his post.

Dubbed the "people's holiday from injustice and impunity," around 3,000 anti-corruption advocates trooped to the high tribunal to "reclaim" the Supreme Court from the hands of a "midnight chief justice."

Glitter Rains Down on Anti-Gay Booth at MN State Fair

St. Paul, MN — Glitter rained down from the heavens in a "Minnesota Miracle" on the anti-marriage equality booth at the Minnesota state fair. LGBT equality activists showered the booth from a skilift shouting: "where's our booth?" and "equality for all" in reference to the strange appearance of the anti-gay booth despite the exclusion of a pro-equality booth on the fairgrounds.
