Protest / Direct Action

Novartis Knock Down Day

Novartis Knock Down Day is a call for actions against Novartis on Monday, October 27th for being one of Huntingdon Life Sciences’ (HLS’s) largest customers. Without customers of Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS) there simply would be no Huntingdon Life Sciences (HLS). The customers pay Huntingdon to test products and carry out research. If Huntingdon lost all their customers then they would have no income and be forced to close. There are only ten companies which give Huntingdon Life Sciences 45% of their income; these include Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline, and Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Networking for Global Peace

During the past RNC I drew from past experience with over zealous cops when I was a photojournalist. I viewed it from afar getting my info from my sources. Check my Blog: http://global-peace-timnolan7.blogspot.com/ let me know what you think or if you have something you would like to comment on. LOVE & PEACE Tim Nolan

Review: "FARE STRIKE! San Francisco 2005: First-Hand Accounts"

FARE STRIKE! 2005: First-Hand Accounts’ is a collection of first-person stories from nine members of a group called Muni Fare Strike, which was involved in an attempt to get together a city-wide transit system fare strike in San Francisco in the summer and fall of 2005. ‘FARE STRIKE!’ begins by misrepresenting the politics that the pamphlet’s authors asserted in the attempted fare strike, trying to make their conventional leftist efforts sound implacably anti-capitalist and revolutionary.

Calling all you Suburbanites...The RNC 08 Needs Money!

So it seems, as always, we’ve found ourselves in a predicament. We, as anarchists, who have never believed in the practice of commerce, are now faced with the reality of our situation; we are up to our asses in legal fees! We quickly forget sometimes that our actions will unduly have negative repercussions. Lucky for us folks who believe in community support and mutual aid, we can count on our comrades to help us out in these dark times. We are asking again, as we will again and again and again, to donate to the legal costs of the RNC 8. Currently, the 8 are facing up to a quarter of a million dollars in lawyer fees that cannot, by any means, be paid out of pocket. My goddess, that’s like, 6 Hummers!

Anti-War March Organizers Express Solidarity and Respect for Diverse Tactics

Shortly after the RNC, Francisco Gonzalez, a guest blogger for Engage Minnesota wrote an article called “March organizers failed to protect message.” http://www.tcdailyplanet.net/article/2008/09/08/march-organizers-failed-...

This article was later posted on the Twin Cities Daily Planet website. As a member of the Coalition to March on the RNC and Stop the War, I felt compelled to respond. Gonzalez suggested that those who organized the permitted anti-war march on the opening day of the RNC should have tried to prevent “unruly elements” from engaging in direct action or should have denounced those who did the next day. He suggested that our message was stolen by “a few who acted mindlessly” and that we should have stood “side by side with police” to denounce them.

CUAPB News: RNC, Raids, Increased Military Powers

Communities United Against Police Brutality
EMAIL NEWSLETTER
September 21, 2008
**********************************************
It has been a month since our last newsletter and very much has happened in that month. On a rather personal note, this editor has had some difficulty summing up all that has happened and getting to the point of being able to write about it. It's also just plain difficult to be in the middle of action and write about it at the same time.

While police brutality is the daily reality of people of color, homeless, low income people and others, the sheer coordination and repressive conduct of police during the RNC harkens a new level efforts to crush dissent. No free speech was tolerated during the RNC and new levels of terror and brutality were rained down on community activists just for opposing the Republican agenda. This conduct was supported and aided by elected officials including mayors and council members on both sides of the river. Now some are trying to worm out of what they unleashed by holding bogus "public" hearings (with hand-picked speakers), naming partisans to phony "independent" investigations, or calling for investigations they know will never materialize.

Both mayors have been effusive in their praise of police conduct--the same conduct that has left many activists bruised and battered and facing serious criminal charges. In this new climate, all police need do is invoke the "terrorism" word and they get a free pass to raid, beat, bomb, gas and arrest, with the grinning assent of elected officials. In the run-up to the annual October 22 National Day of Protest Against Police Brutality, CUAPB will examine this new climate, what it means for all activists (not just those opposed to the current administration), and how it is likely to spill over toward people already feeling the boot of police oppression.

Bombs and Shields: Felony Updates from the RNC

The article below, with links, first appeared at http://bombsandshields.blogspot.com/2008/09/legal-updates-from-rnc-prote...

Remember that all allegations are only that - allegations by the state.

*******
Two men from Austin, Texas David Guy McKay, 22 and Bradley Neil Crowder, 23 are being held on charges that they constructed and possessed eight molotov cocktails. Police discovered the devices with the help of two confidential informants, one of whom traveled from Texas for the protests. FBI agents named the group the "Austin Area Affinity Group."

Friendly Fire Collective: We Are All the RNC Welcoming Committee

As many have probably now heard, eight members of the RNC Welcoming Committee (WC) have been charged with “Conspiracy to Riot in Furtherance of Terrorism.” The WC was a group of primarily anarchists that has been operating for a couple years now in organizing logistics and infrastructure to support the protests against the Republican National Convention, which occurred last week in St. Paul, MN. These activists are now being charged with terrorism-related crimes under Minnesota’s version of the PATRIOT Act, facing up to 7 ½ years in prison if convicted on all counts.
