Final Pre-Trial, Circus Rally, Event Series and Other Updates on the RNC 8

Garrett Fitzgerald, Max Specktor, Nathanael Secor and Rob Czernik of the RNC 8

September 22 marked the final pre-trial hearing for the remaining four defendants of the RNC 8. Important details such as the jury selection process, outstanding issues with the evidence in the case and lists of witnesses and exhibits, the table arrangements for the defendants and defense attorneys during trial and other matters were all discussed.

Court Update from the Fifth Day of RNC 8 Hearings

On Friday, we heard the testimony of Chris Dugger, Ramsey County Sheriff's Deputy.

Dugger started attending Welcoming Committee meetings in November of '07. He was told to "listen and figure out what they were up to." He didn't start getting paid until spring of '08, and was deputized at the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department after the RNC.

Court Update from the Fourth Day of RNC 8 Hearings

Today was the fourth day of the RNC 8 hearings. Most of the day was spent questioning Sergeant Jay Maher of the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department Special Investigations Unit, who conducted extensive surveillance leading up to and following the RNC, worked with the Ramsey County Sheriff's Department informants and supervised some of the raids. Chris Dugger, another Welcoming Committee informant, was unavailable to testify today, and will take the stand tomorrow morning. Maher talked about the initiation of the investigation into the RNC WC.

Ladies, gentlemen, and otherly-gendered of the press:

This past weekend, DFLers from every city, every town, every hamlet, every last Hooverville of this great state convened a grand congress. Like many a congress, it basked in much fanfare as, behind the scenes, other forces were at work. The delegates magicked into being a plan–somewhat worthy of note–to endorse Margaret Anderson-Kelliher for Governor. At the same time, a dispatch of the RNC 8 Defense Committee was secretly hammering the final nail in the musty coffin of another run at the governorship.
