Participate
The CONTENT you see on this site is posted by people involved in activist, political, and community organizations across the Twin Cities and surrounding region. Anyone - yes, including you! - can publish content provided it fits our general mission and editorial policy.
Twin Cities Indymedia is MAINTAINED entirely by volunteers - who are also people most likely just like you!
Some of the things volunteers do are:
- Maintain the technical integrity of the site and coordinate basic web logistics
- Kill spam
- Do outreach to increase community awareness and participation
- Consistently produce and solicit quality feature articles and cover breaking stories within area social movements
- Work on video projects such as the film Terrorizing Dissent about the 2008 St. Paul RNC.
Some TCIMC volunteers also comprise the TC Indymedia collective. The collective has the bottom line on decision-making - although all volunteers can participate in shaping decisions - and are responsible for lending equipment. Collective members...
- Have contributed to producing at least 2 feature stories for Indymedia within the past 6 months
- Participate in other Indymedia activities besides creating features
- Express a desire to become a collective member
- Be agreed upon by consensus of the existing collective
- May take a leave of absence without losing membership. Collective members who do not work on Indymedia projects for 3 months without requesting a leave must be consensed upon to join the collective again.
- Non-collective volunteers are normally an equal part of the consensus decision-making process, but if consensus cannot be reached amongst collective members+other volunteers, then the decision falls to the collective.
Currently, all of our projects can use help. If you're interested in getting involved with the collective, or working on a specific project, consider contacting us or coming to an open meeting (check the events calendar to see if one's coming up).
Want to get involved without joining the collective -- or maybe without even having to talk to us? Here's some ideas for DIY involvement:
- Choose an event from our events calendar or elsewhere to attend and publish a written, photo or video reportback
- Seek out radical events to post on our events calendar
- Interview a social justice organizer, artist, or cool persyn around town and publish it to our newswire
- Crosspost content of interest to TC radicals and progressives from your blog, photo or video sharing site, or other website
- Download or make TCIMC promotional materials to spread around town
- Host a benefit or fundraiser for Indymedia's work and equipment
- Encourage your friends and comrades to follow TCIMC and sign up for our breaking news text message updates and email announcements list
Thanks! Make media, make trouble!
***Equipment Loans***
TCIMC loans equipment - at this point, mostly video cameras - to organizations and individuals for use consistent with our social justice mission. Those who wish to use equipment must meet with a collective member for a short training and sign an agreement that lists the return-by date and user responsibilities. The agreement form can be downloaded here:
TCIMC Loan Agreement (DOC)
TCIMC Loan Agreement (Open Office)
Contact us or talk to a collective member you know if you wish to borrow our equipment.
